Expressive abstract portrait depicting an emotionally charged muse. This piece delves into the intersection of my abstract explorations and my figurative background. This muse showed up with a combination of peace and melancholy. As I sit to paint and let the creative juices flow, I am still amazed how these muses find their way onto my canvas. This was a first for me, generally painting figures arise from sketching feelings which end up taking form. Then comes adding the paint, which usually is a soft, patient, and intimate process of blending expressive love between the medium, the surface, and the flowing feelings.  However, this one was rough, spontaneous and messy. It emerged using a spatula, no sketch involved. I love it!

Artists Statement:
...Life in the tropics gives me enough to get inspired. Using acrylics I paint about motherhood, childhood, family, and the little things in between. Art serves me as a voice to illustrate the permanence of transitory moments in life and how these moments leave unique footprints in our lives. I'm a South Florida artist born in San Juan Puerto Rico. Both of these wonderful places have greatly influenced my color palette which reflects earth elements from the tropical life that surrounds me. Through my art I try to balance the saturation of greens and blues our senses receive when visiting a tropical setting. I was formally educated in Fine Arts (B/W photography and ceramics sculpture) at the fine arts program at the University of Puerto Rico and later graduated from Florida International University (majored in Liberal Studies, Fine Arts, and Art History). I paint about the keys because the Florida Keys make me feel close to the island feeling I grew up in and its beauty inspires me every day.
